Thing to Get: Dungeness Crab with The Whole Sha-bang Seasoning
Grade: A
Went to LA for a wedding, and of course, did my fair share of eating. 2 of my good friends came down to LA and my parents suggested that we take them out to The Boiling Crab. This chain specializes in serving seafood by the pound, selections of flavorings, and cult following with the young and the old. What makes this place great is that everyone gets a plastic bib, and everyone gets down to business as you eat with your hands!
But worth it? Oh yes – the seafood is fresh, the seasonings are flavorful, and the price can’t be beat. With Shrimp at $10/lb – and everyone guaranteed to come out fat and happy this place is definitely must. (Note: if you do not like peeling shrimp, getting your hands dirty, or do not like seafood, this place is NOT for you).
What did we get to order?
- Dungeness Crab
- King Crab Legs
- Shrimp by the Pound
-Gumbo with rice on the side
- Sweet Potato Fries
-Cajun Fries
Seasonings to choose from: Rajun Cajun (Original), Lemon Pepper, Garlic Butter, The Whole Sha-Bang (all 3 of the previous seasonings).
All the seafood is fresh and great – everything comes in a plastic bag with seasoning. But what makes the seafood great, is which seasoning is best.
Seasonings – The Best to get is the Whole Sha-bang, a little bit of the lemon, with a little bit of spice from the Original, and the rich flavor of garlic butter.
Seafood to get – Dungeness Crab (you get an entire bag in a crab). King Crab Legs were pretty good too, but unfortunately instead of the Whole Sha-bang seasoning we got the garlic butter seasoning which wasn’t as good.
Sides: Cajun Fries were really tasty, but a bit spicy for my liking. definitely more unique seasoning than I’ve ever had on some fries; Sweet Potato Fries are pretty standard.
With Seafood great, prices, low, I definitely enjoyed my experience at The Boiling Crab. I can imagine however, its more of a novelty, and I can’t say that I’d be a cult follower. Maybe every 3 months or so? But if I’m in the mood for lots of seafood, The Boiling Crab is the place to go.

In LA for the weekend, and came across this. LA StreetFood Fest on Saturday featuring all the crazy food trucks, much like Seattle’s Mobile Chowdown, but probably 3x bigger. I’m going to try and make it despite the schedule.
