I seldom go to South Lake Union for brunch, but went here to meet up with a friend who suggested this place. The ambience of this place is really charming, in an old house, made of all wood, it just feels instantly homey, a great neighborhood establishment. I had trouble deciding on what to get for brunch so I asked an employee what she suggested and she said by far she recommended the benedict and the baked brie, both pictured above. Note this is not a sit-down brunch place, you go up to the register, pay, and they bring your food to you.
The baked brie was really good, I had this with the berries, but you have the option to choose other toppings such as honey and pine nuts, maple syrup and walnuts, or fruit preserves. I think the only reason why I did not give this place an A is because while the baked brie was excellent, it is cheese after all and not quite the dish that I would have chosen to recommend to showcase the culinary talents of the chef. Nonetheless, it is definitely something I have not seen on a brunch menu, so will give points there.
I only had a small bite of the prosciutto benedict which was good, but the eggs (which were extra large) were almost over done poached. With eggs benedict I prefer to have my eggs a bit runny, especially with the saltiness of the prosciutto, but points for trying to be different.
All in all, a cute find in South Lake Union – I will have to give it another shot and try the other recommended item: french toast.
